This meaningful ribbon skirt is created using Jackie Traverse's Ojibway Florals fabric. This fabric features hummingbirds and florals in purples, blues, and greens. This skirt is adorned with 9 rows of satin ribbons (13.5"). The ribbons have 4 rows of orange, 2 rows of ECM handprint, 2 rows of Metis Infinity symbol, and 1 statement ribbon that says Every Child Matters.

Tina Houle, Gathering Medicine Woman is from the Buffalo clan. Her mother is from the Metis Nation in Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan, and her father is from Gambler First Nation here in Manitoba. Tina made my first couple of ribbon skirts in 2020 during COVID as a way to cope with the pandemic. In 2021, she experienced the loss of my son to suicide and she continued to sew skirts as form of healing and grounding as she grieved through that loss. As time went on, she continued making ribbon skirts and in doing so, has healed and connected with culture, built strength, and identity within herself as an indigenous woman, she has even had the courage to start jingle dress dancing!

Making skirts is such a passion for Tina. She loves that she can take a piece of fabric and be as creative as she wants and that creation always resonates with someone in just the way they need it to. That connection is a gift that she loves to share with others!
